Shadows Of the Past II

Concentrating, he felt the overlapping scales of his armor form about him. Nearly impenetrable yet so weightless as to not hinder, he knew its metallic caress well.

The comforting weight of his Blade completed him. Long as a tall man, the blade was a full hands-width wide. It was feather-light and unbreakable.

The true beauty of the weapon lay not in its blade but in its ornate pommel. A gilded claw held a flawless smoky-red gemstone. The stone drew on his Soulbond. It empowered him with the speed and strength and even the fire of his bondmate. It was an unmatched sword.

This story excerpt was chosen for the weekly Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday Snippet  and is from an, as yet, unnamed work in progress.

  1. Oooo! Sword porn!! Me likey!! Keep going...
    Great description by the way.

  2. I could do with armour like that for my rolegaming characters! I love the phrase that the Blade "completed him". Resonant and effective. I'll be interested to see where this is going.

  3. Nice descriptions! Like the way the details of the sword help complete the image in my mind.

  4. I'm curious as to why he's armoring up... what danger lurks there? Nice snippet. :)

  5. Great description! I'm guessing he is quite a tall, bulky fellow anyway to wield such a blade. :)

    1. It 'feather-light' he could be a shortie!

  6. Beautiful imagery. I was hooked by the idea of a Soulbond and how that affected his weapon.

    Cool concept!

    :) Heidi

  7. I have a blade thing too! Nice descriptions :)

  8. Your imagery is fantastic. Sword porn is right! I wanted to step into the scene and run my hands over it. Also intriguing is the concept of the Soulbond and drawing on the strength of his bondmate. Nice work.

  9. Sword porn, LOL.

I'm intrigued as to what it draws power for, whether it has some energy as well as an edge. Will be reading to find out!
