Essentials Of Business

Katsumo looked down at the shining steel blade protruding from his chest, his eyes wide with a mixture of both pain and disbelief. A slowly spreading crimson stain, his life’s blood, oozed out and dripped down the starched whiteness of his shirt.

“Brother, for control of the company you would take my life? Did you not understand you had merely to ask and I would have relinquished all to you…it was yours for the asking.”

Watching the light fade in his brother’s eyes, Tetsuo shook his head with disgust that the fool died never understanding the harsh realities of business and that such power is not for the asking…it is for the taking.

This story was written for the weekly Five Sentence Fiction prompt: business.

  1. Well done.

    I'm forcing myself not to make a political comment . . .

  2. The hard line of business, very sad. Really well put Jeffrey!

  3. This is why I could never trust anyone else to work in a business I owned and ran. Strong writing here, enjoyed the scene setting and pace.

  4. Harsh reality with a flash moment of emotion. Powerful, and very well conceived!
