For their entire lives Colin, Seamus, Padraig and Quinn had called Crosspoints Orphanage home. As their leader, Colin had found them a way out of their squalid existence, albeit an unusual one.
Master Reese, he explained, was amassing an army of street urchins similar to them and, once they’d been turned and enjoyed the gifts of vampiric life, they would never know poverty or cold or nagging hunger ever again.
Though stunned, the trio concurred. Seamus, however, now felt a bit odd for having nicked the fresh loaf. It seemed, all too soon, they’d have no further need of such.
Feeling badly for having missed it, this story was written for an already-closed edition of the weekly Visual Dare flash fiction prompt: conference.
