By Any Means

With every passing day, his strength and resolve faded as his body continued to betray him ever more and more. He’d had no delusions of his chances of surviving the disease claiming more and more victims with brutal rapacity.

And so, he’d submitted to the program willingly, grasping desperately at the only conceivable means by which he might forestall the inevitable.
When the technicians indicated all was in readiness, he steeled himself for the inexplicable process by which his consciousness was to be transferred into a more viable, albeit virtual, host body.

The pain, the waves of coruscating energy faded and he found himself aware again and possessed of a sense of wellness…of wholeness…of strength he had almost forgotten he had ever known before.

This story was written for the weekly Five Sentence Fiction flash fiction prompt: conquer.

  1. I'm in a time warp... the past, the future in one, of fortitude...alien.

  2. A very creative and futuristic view of the prompt!

  3. This would make a wonderful beginning to a longer story. Very grabbing. Nice work.
