Maria sat, languidly relaxing on the sofa of the guest quarters at the Felinoid Research Institute Headquarters, Terran Sector and pondered what the future might hold for her.
Her people were…ambitious by nature and any avenue to advancement and prominence was to be exploited. So, she was singularly unsurprised to learn that her mate, Gunther’s, passing had not been a natural one.
She had no delusions he had been without enemies. He had, after all, been rude, abrasive and tyrannical and those were his good points. Still and all, she couldn’t imagine he’d not cultivated some alliances on this benighted backwater planet.
