A Bold Alliance

Maria fought the urge to revert to her natural form and shred the cushions of the couch. She was beginning to suspect more and more Janx was not a source of assistance but, actually, complicit in Gunther’s demise.

In an unexpectedly bold mood, she had chosen to make contact with a certain Chief Enforcer Strelx. As the being tasked with tracking down the fugitive Janx, she surmised she might have a better chance of achieving satisfaction through an alliance.

She’d supplied Strelx with transport coordinates to a neutral meeting place and expected his arrival at any moment. With a whuff of displaced air, Strelx materialized…in the middle of the dinner she’d gone to such trouble to order up for their meeting.

Arching one eyebrow she realized, as competent as he might be, his transport equipment was clearly less effective. Additionally, it struck her she had somehow expected him to be…taller.

This story was written for the weekly Visual Dare flash fiction prompt: fearless. As a personal challenge, I have been stringing the prompts from week to week into an ongoing story. This marks the 22nd such and previous installments may be found here

  1. I like the idea of a serialised story. I'll have to look up your other ones. I love the line..."it struck her she had somehow expected him to be...taller."
