By Memories Called

Embossed upon the thick card stock was naught but an address and a time with the simple instructions, “Be there.” Janx had every intention of complying…on his terms.

He’d watched the unassuming row of shops for over an hour without spotting any obvious signs of an ambush before approaching. To his annoyance, no such address existed. There was a boot shop to the left, a locksmith to the right but the exact address simply did not exist.

Exasperated and annoyed, Janx turned to leave;  only then noticing the shadows prominently  displayed on the opposing sidewalk. His finely-  developed mind grasped the message immediately.  Cobbler…key…Cobbler’s Key!

Only one being on the planet knew of his refuge there and his memories were drawn back to a simpler time when he had found comfort and even perhaps…love… there in the silken arms of someone long-forgotten. That he must go there now was indisputable.

This story was written for the weekly Visual Dare flash fiction prompt: ephemeral. As a personal challenge, I have been stringing the prompts from week to week into an ongoing story. This marks the 23rd such and previous installments may be found here.
