Closing In

Savoring the steaming aroma of his coffee, Chief Enforcer Strelx thought these savages might just have something worthwhile to contribute to the universe after all.

Reluctantly, he set down his mug and turned his attention to his monitors. Using tech the Council would never have sanctioned or approved, Stelx had found Janx hiding place. His troops were moving into positions now and would execute the raid in mere minutes. He allowed himself another sip of brewed wonderment as the deployment unfolded.

He frowned as he zoomed in to view his reserve troops. They had no more experience than the rest of his agents at covert operations and it showed. While their holographic disguises were operating flawlessly, they blended into their surroundings like a…tri-horned blurfex in a ballroom.

He tried to be more concerned over their incompetence but found himself strangely...unconcerned. Perhaps, he mused, he needed more of this wondrous beverage first.

This story was written for the weekly Visual Dare flash fiction prompt: indifferent. As a personal challenge, I have been stringing the prompts from week to week into an ongoing story. This marks the 23rd such and previous installments may be found here.

  1. Oh yes! I did like this Jeffrey. You could do so much more with this story. LOL I love the idea of a fresh brewed coffee causing his indifference :-)
