Who's Scared Now?

Geoff looked at the drawing and asked his son, “Hey buddy, very scary. What is it?”

Caleb looked up with a haunted expression, “Evil scarecrow, Daddy.”

Geoff hugged the boy, “Don’t worry. Daddy won’t let the evil scarecrow get you.”

The boy’s expression remained grim, “I not scared, Daddy. He coming for you…not me.”

This story was written for the weekly 55 Word Challenge flash fiction challenge. It is based on a drawing done by my 4-year-old son, Caleb. While this story has not actually happened, given that my wife is a horror-writer by specialty and I have written no shortage of darkly-themed stories, it is only a matter of time.
