Reluctant Keeper

Copyright Dawn Landau

When Sidney got his first glimpse of the Malodorous Keys Lighthouse he was, understandably, dismayed. Exasperation overriding caution, he rounded on the Master Keeper, his voice cracking with emotion.

“Sir, there must be some mistake? This…edifice isn’t a lighthouse! It’s got no beacon and well…for Heaven’s sake it hasn’t even got a roof.”

The Master fixed him with a steely gaze and nearly growled in response, “Given the Academy janitor outscored you on three of the five Keeper Certifications, I should think you’d be satisfied with any posting at all.”

Sidney’s face blushed red but he could scarcely complain.

  1. Shouldn't be hard to clean at least, just sweep out what the waves bring in!

  2. Looks like a lonely post. Bummer.

  3. Ahaha! It sounds like he's lucky to have any job at all, alright! Original angle.

  4. But he's so articulate! I think he deserves a better posting! so there.
