Welcome to the Five Sentence Fiction flash fiction writing prompt. In the words of its creator, Lillie McFerrin, Five Sentence Fiction is about "packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist".
Each week will feature a word prompt and contributors are asked to use it as inspiration to write a story using just five sentences. The prompt word is not required to appear in the created story but is intended to be fuel for thought.
In addition to the word prompt, there is also a photo prompt. As with the word prompt, the photo need not necessarily be incorporated into your writing. It merely adds an additional motivator.
So, consider the word, appraise the photo and when all is said and done, provide us with as literal or as convoluted a contribution as your imagination can envision. The goal of this prompt is to inspire you to write while leaving much of the journey to the destination entirely in your hands.
The newest prompts will appear on Wednesdays and will remain active until the next weekly prompts are posted the following Wednesday. Link your story to this prompt page via the provided InLinkz click button at the bottom of the page. Please show your support for your fellow contributors by visiting and commenting on their interpretations of the prompts. Remember that we grow as writers, in part, by experiencing the work of other writers. Please don't miss out on the potential that this exercise provides to see different interpretations than your own of a common thread. Finally, please draw attention to your work and the work of your fellow writers via social media. Feel free to use the hashtags #FSF and any others you feel appropriate. Now...on to the prompts!
